Affects Section
Introduction
As specified in the Alpha Map Section an alpha map can be used to control all of the surface attributes based on the current texture function. Where the alpha map returns 0% for a particular point then any affects controlled by it will be 0%. Similarly, if 100% is returned then the maximum percentage specified for that affect will be applied. For example, say a linear gradient had a alpha map going from 0% to 100% and the reflectivity affect was enabled with the control set to 100%. At the start of the gradient where the alpha was 0% then the reflectivity will be 0%. As the gradient progresses and the alpha map value approaches 100% then the reflectivity will follow until it reaches 100% at the end of the gradient. Also, if we set the affect reflectivity control to 50% then the maximum that the reflectivity would reach would be 50% when the alpha map reaches 100%. Another feature is the ability to invert the alpha map. This achieved by making the affect control negative. Say we set the reflectivity from our previous example to -100%. Then rather then going from 0% reflectivity to 100% it would be reversed and go from 100% to 0%. A particular affect is enabled when its check box has been checked. The figures below show all of the possible surface attributes that can be controlled by an alpha map. Notice, that when affect control is negative the alpha map is completely reversed.

Affect Controls
The basic surface for the cube. This is overlayed with fBm to create the alpha map shown on the right where black is 0% alpha and white is 100%. This is the alpha map used for all of the samples below.
 
Affect Layer
